The Conroe Scribblers is Montgomery County ’s longest established writing club. It was organized by Hughie Call, author of The Shorn Lamb, and her sister, Louise Berthold, on July 5, 1966, at The St. James Episcopal Church. The Club is a charter member of the Montgomery County Literary Arts Council.

During its long life the Club has held meetings in a variety of locations, including members’ homes. Currently it meets at the Montgomery County Library, Central Branch, 104 Interstate 45 North, in Conroe , Texas .  Meetings are held once each month on the third Monday, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM , except in January and February, when meetings are held on the third Tuesday due to the holidays.

The purpose of the Club is to teach and encourage creative writing, both fiction and nonfiction, by engaging in discussions of various writing techniques and concepts, by having members read their works aloud at meetings, followed by constructive criticism and critiquing of those works, and by listening to topics of interest about various aspects of writing and publishing presented by guest speakers.

If you are an adult interested in fiction or nonfiction writing, please come to one of our meetings to see for yourself what we do. As a guest, you will be welcome to join our discussions, to listen in on our readings and critiques, and to bring samples of your own work to read—all without charge or obligation. If you decide to become a member, the fee is $25 per annum.
